HMS Quality & Safety Program Manager Advocates for Sepsis Awareness and Action on Capitol Hill
Today, HMS Quality & Safety Program Manager Pat Posa is on Capitol Hill advocating for greater awareness, prevention, and timely treatment of sepsis, a life-threatening medical emergency that affects millions of people each year.
During Hill Day, Posa joined advocates, survivors, clinicians, families, and community leaders in urging lawmakers to make sepsis a national priority. Sepsis can happen to anyone, and while it remains a leading cause of serious illness and death, many cases can be prevented or treated more effectively through early recognition, rapid response, stronger hospital protocols, expanded education, and supportive public health policies.
In meetings with lawmakers, Posa emphasized the urgent need to improve sepsis education for the public and healthcare professionals, support clinicians and hospitals in delivering timely treatment, advance research, and ensure patients and families have access to the resources they need before, during, and after a sepsis diagnosis.
Behind every sepsis statistic is a patient, a family, and a story that deserves action. HMS is grateful to stand alongside those working to raise awareness, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve outcomes for patients and families affected by sepsis.
Awareness saves lives. Policy can save lives, too.
