    HMS was grateful to attend the Unite for Sepsis Symposium 2026 and join healthcare leaders, clinicians, researchers, survivors, and community partners in important conversations about improving sepsis outcomes across the full continuum of care. Sessions featuring Dr. Androni Henry, Dr. Kathryn Bowles, and keynote speaker Stephanie Taylor Parks underscored the need for aligned systems, early recognition, timely treatment, equitable care, and strong post-discharge support. HMS left encouraged by the shared commitment to driving system-level change that supports patients and families throughout every stage of sepsis treatment and recovery.

    HMS Quality & Safety Program Manager Pat Posa visits Capitol Hill advocating for greater awareness, prevention, and timely treatment of sepsis.     The death of NASCAR driver Kyle Busch from sepsis in May 2026 at age 41 has renewed attention around sepsis awareness. Michigan Medicine’s Dr. Hallie Prescott and HMS’s Pat Posa both spoke to the public following his death, emphasizing that sepsis can affect anyone and that recognizing warning signs early — such as confusion, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate, and decreased urine output — is critical.
